updates from cwirka in ghana

my dear friend Dan Cwirka has just returned to Africa to complete another project for his organization Humanitarian Notes.  I had the pleasure of making a site for him (updated version in the works) and weaving together all the things that made me love web development in the first place – supporting good work, good people, learning, and travel.

Dan has a knack for giving a great view of the country he’s in and making me laugh at every post.  take a visit to http://cwirkleoflife.blogspot.com/ for more…

“Accra is quite a city. Lots of people, but no better organized than any other cities I’ve been to in these parts. And it’s dusty. And the markets here are some of the craziest I’ve ever seen. Half complaining, half in awe. Want a red, yellow and green belt with a Dolce &Gabbana belt buckle? A Ghanaian flag with Bob Marley and Obama on it? Beads (Bees?! BEADS!)? Beautiful Kente cloth? UglyKente cloth? A lightly used stereo system? A heavily used pair of shoes? Plastic bags full of water? YOU CAN GET THEM ALL!”

"Different sense of humor" -dan

“I had the pleasure of seeing the premier of “Cuz ov Moni” last night at the National Theatre in Accra. It was quite an experience. It has been called by it’s two stars as the first Pidgen Musical. This could very well be true. What it means to me is that while I enjoyed myself greatly, I missed countless jokes because I have no idea what was said. I’m fairly confident what I missed were jokes, because the rest of the audience certainly got a kick out of it.

“Cuz ov Moni” was written by and stared Wanlov the Kubolor and M3NSA. There are multiple ways of spelling both their names. They don’t seem to have committed to any one in particular. This seems to bother me and no one else. Welcome to Africa”
