This year, we’re launching a blog series that features a few of our clients and the great work they do. Many of them have accomplished noteworthy feats, from engineering the iconic Lyft mustache to creating innovative analytics solutions for healthcare providers, to working tirelessly to support immigrants as they navigate through our complex legal system. We’re honored to work with such a talented body of people who are actually changing the world.
For our first feature, meet World Trust, a social justice nonprofit in Oakland, CA. World Trust is a prime example of the type of client whose work drives and inspires our team.
World Trust is a leading organization in social justice. They work with clients to address systemic racism and unconscious bias by creating workshops, films, and a robust curriculum that gives people the tools to learn and evolve their behaviors. In 2011, World Trust first approached us to overhaul their site and create an online presence for their groundbreaking materials. Our relationship has continued over the years, and in 2015, we provided them with a complete design refresh. At Mangrove, we feel fortunate to have inspiring clients like World Trust, and we are excited to share their work with our greater community.
Changing the conversation
For more than 40 years, World Trust has created educational curriculum to address racial equity. Documentary-style films are a key part of their curriculum – so far they’ve completed four films and a fifth will be released later this year. World Trust uses these films to create space for conversations that can impact what is often called “diversity initiatives.”
The forthcoming film, “Healing Justice: Cultivating a World of Belonging,” began as a conversation about the criminal justice system and what is often called the school-to-prison pipeline. It has since evolved into a film that asks viewers explore what “justice” actually is and to envision a new justice system. It explores what healing is needed, on personal and institutional levels, in order for our society to move more towards one infused with inclusivity, accountability and belonging.
Every World Trust film comes with a free, downloadable conversation guide to lead viewers in engaging discourse that breaks down the core themes. The World Trust approach is unique because it encourages people to engage in a dialogue about social justice in academic, corporate, and personal settings. Both Mangrove and World Trust share the desire to enhance the capacity of the organizations and individuals we serve by creating tools that catalyze change and make information more accessible. The Mangrove team is thrilled to continually support World Trust in their digital marketing initiatives so they can reach a wider audience with their impactful work. Their voice is an important one to be heard now as much as ever.
How to get involved
World Trust, like many other nonprofits, is always looking for support from volunteers and interns willing to donate time for events and special projects. Also, a small monthly donation gives contributors access to video clips and additional support materials to continue the larger conversations about race and racism that can profoundly impact people’s lives.
