How to Sign Up for a Google Maps API
Instructions
- Go here: https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/
- Click the Get started button!
- Select Maps and hit continue
- Sign into your google account. Make sure this is NOT a personal Google Account! It needs to be able to be used within the company.
- Enter your project name (should be name of organization or website)
- Click Yes
- Click Enable billing
- Create a billing account by going through the steps in the form. Ensure any information you put in here is not personal data, but is connected to the organization.
- We will need the API key to use for the website’s map.
Option 1: If you are not comfortable working within this interface. We will need to log in to the Google Console with the account you used to create this project so we can complete the process. Use this service: https://onetimesecret.com/ to securely share the email address and password
Option 2: If Option 1 does not work for the organization. We can walk you through how to set up the correct Google APIs and access the API key via phone call.
Option 3: If you are comfortable within this interface. You can head over to APIs and Services > Library and enable the following APIs:
- Geocoding API
- Places API
- Maps JavaScript API
