Website Logins and Passwords

WordPress

Each Mangrove WordPress site will be slightly different, but by default, to log in to the WordPress dashboard, you can visit “https://yourwebsitehere.com/wp-admin”.

Some hosting situations allow the “/wp-admin” to be changed, so it’s not the same one that every other WordPress website uses. This allows better security, so the bots that scour the web can’t gain easy access to the login page. In that case, we will change it to: “https://yourwebsitehere.com/custom-login”, where “custom-login” is given to you around the time of website launch.

On CloudCannon, the login is simply “https://stagingsitehere.com/update” (we’ll give you the staging site URL). The password is set by us, and we’ll give this to you around the time of launch. Make sure to read the “where to keep your password” to keep it secure!

In any case, you can contact us if you’re having trouble logging in.

Your Password

Speaking of bots scouring the web, it’s important to have a strong password! The password for your WordPress website should be the strongest password you can possibly muster, so it’s time to retire that password that gets used for every account.

Something you might find interesting if you don’t already know, the complexity of your password isn’t so important when it comes to automated password guessing by bots–it’s the length! An 8 character password will take around only 5 hours to be cracked vs 12 characters which would be 2 centuries.

According to BetterBuys.com “Combining several types of characters is an extremely effective way to make your password more cryptic. A simple, common word can be cracked in fractions of a millisecond. Inject a mix of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols (think @, %, and #), and your password can be secure for more than a decade.”

Where to keep your password

No matter how good your password is, if it’s easy for someone at your desk to find, it’s not really a password, is it? Keeping it in your brain is the best place, so having a password like “banana-aPple-3socks” is memorable and secure. Or, you can keep it in an already secured device where you already remember the password, like a secure notes app, or on your password protected computer.
