Has it been a few of years since your website got any love? Has your organization grown or changed its mission? Have you done an accessibility report and checked your site speed? Take a look behind the curtain — we’re sharing the questionnaire we use internally when clients ask if it’s time to rebuild their website.

We hope this information helps guide you through internal conversations about the future of your website. You can complete the checklist now, or save your answers and return to it later. Once you’re done, you have the option to email your answers to yourself to use in planning sessions.

  • You may use this easy free testing tool from GTmetrix or Google’s site speed tool, also free. Test all important top-level pages.
    • Your website convinced me to contact you about a project/partnership
    • Wow - your website is amazing!
    • I learned so much about XYZ (project/program) and really understand/appreciate your work.
  • It’s 2020 - we all know how much everyone is using mobile devices. Any blank checkbox likely mean it’s time for a rebuild. Not sure? The best way to assess is to look for yourself on all the devices you own, and ask a friend to check your site on theirs.
  • Ask a couple of friends or colleagues who are unfamiliar with your website to learn a piece of information or accomplish a certain task. Some ideas include:
    • After reading the home page, how well do you understand what our organization does?
    • What people or other organizations would be interested in what we do?
    • How do you sign up for our newsletter?
    • How do you donate?
    • How do you get in touch with us?
    • How many products do we sell?
    • When is our next event?
