The Ask
The Biomimicry Institute needed a new website that would enhance the experience of users, increase engagement, and improve content management. It was also important that the new site illuminate their ideas, showcase key initiatives, and inspire visitors to learn more about biomimicry and the mission of the Biomimicry Institute. Custom WordPress development, responsive front-end development, and a thoughtful content strategy were needed to provide flexibility, improve accessibility, and support search engine optimization. The design needed to be bold and able to adapt to their changing needs and brand architecture.

The Solution
To address the Biomimicry Institute’s needs, we built the site on WordPress, taking advantage of its flexibility and adaptability. This allowed us to ensure a more accessible and impactful platform for visitors and back-end users. Several customizations were used, including design solutions that allow the Biomimicry team to build dynamic, visually compelling pages and a filtering system for the blog that makes it easier for users to find and engage with content. To provide a solution for showcasing Biomimicry initiatives, our team developed a new portfolio section of the site.
We built the site to WCAG Level AA compliance, carefully selecting typography, ensuring ideal color contrast, and rigorously testing for accessibility throughout the design and development phases. With a goal to launch for New York Climate Week and the unveiling of the Institute’s new 10 year strategy, thoughtful project management helped keep the project on target.
We worked collaboratively with trusted partners on this project, including Rachel Dearborn of Dearborn Strategies. Playing a key role in the project from kick-off, Rachel’s work resulted in a clear and refreshed brand strategy as well as a content strategy to support both the site architecture and design. We also worked closely with SEO consultant Jessica Poulin of Column & Row and are proud of the way the site has brought their work to life.
The combined efforts of our team and partners have resulted in a user-friendly platform that not only enhances the Institute’s visibility with new and existing audiences, but also clearly articulates their mission to advance nature-inspired solutions and inspires action and education among their community.
